Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the time of the year where football fans in every city that has an NFL franchise hold out hope that this is the year their team will win the super bowl. On one hand you can say they have a point since every team has the same 0 wins ,0 loss record as we speak. But then there is reality(sorry Detriot Lions fans). Even as soon as week four is in the books the downtrodden teams will fall into their rightful places and the fantasy of a cinderella season will be over. Thus we will hear that familiar phrase "wait til next year"!!

Perfect Timing For Favre, Vikings
Finally! The Brett Favre will he or will he not return to the NFL melodrama is over! I'm so happy it's over because I was getting annoyed with that being the topic for the first 10 minutes, the middle 10 minutes, and the final 10 minutes of almost every sports show. However, I'm not the only one who should be a happy camper, Minnesota Vikings fans should be as well. Remember, you heard it hear first; the Minnesota Vikings will make it to the Super Bowl this season! The Vikings were already a contender, and the Brett Favre signing put the icing on the cake. I know there are lots of skeptics who are worried about his age and the condition of his right arm, but Favre will be fine. This is a guy who has played in nearly 300 consecutive NFL games. If nothing else the guy has proven he's a warrior.
The best thing about this whole ordeal for the Vikings is the timing couldn't be better for them and Favre to unite. This team is tailor made for Favre at this point of his career. The Vikings already posed the league's stingiest defense and the league's most dominant running back in Adrian Peterson(add Chester Taylor and they have the league's best running back duo), and an offensive line that is rock solid. In other words what I'm saying is that Brett Favre doesn't have to be the Brett Favre he was in Green Bay where he was the focal point and a better than good game from him was imperative for a Packers win. All Favre has to do is manage the game and not turn the ball over. Of course he's gonna be asked to make a play or two during the game , after all he is Brett Favre, but the Vikings won't be solely dependent on his right arm to win games. As far as his health is concerned, the shoulder should hold up just fine. Favre won't be slinging the ball around the Metrodome 40-50 times a game which will limit wear and tear on his shoulder and limit his being in the middle of quarterback hungry pass rushers. So there you have it, history does repeat itself. I see this story unfolding similar to that of John Elway and the Denver Broncos where the legendary QB in the last act of his career gets a great supporting cast and gets the prize that has eluded him for much of his career. I know Favre has won a Super Bowl before, but that was very early in his career. In fact his last and only other Super Bowl appearance was a loss to Elway and the Broncos. He will change that this season!

Memo to Houston Astros: Time to Start Over
Many fans, including myself sometimes, have talked about Astros owner Drayton McLane's spending or lack thereof over the years. Well, with the Astros having the eighth largest payroll in baseball (second in the national league) that is no longer a valid argument to the team not winning a championship. I have to give McLane much credit; he has done everything within reason from a financial standpoint, to keep the Astros competitve and in contention for a postseason berth this decade. But now I am absolutely sure it is time for the Astros to do their best Pittsburgh Pirates impersonation: HOLD A FIRESALE! Outside of Michael Bourn and Hunter Pence, everyone should be expendable on the roster. The Astros have to get younger, and what better way to replenish a depleted farm system than to trade away star veteran players in their prime! You think Carlos Lee, Miguel Tejada, Lance Berkman, or Roy Oswalt couldn't be the missing piece to some team possibly winning it all next season? Im sure these four guys alone can bring in some top young minor league prospects or better yet, young players with high upsides trying to establish themselves in the majors. I personally said this past June the Astros should do this, but when your team is only 3 games out of first place at the all star break who can blame management for not taking my advice! But since the team has free fallen to about 13 games out of first place at the time of this writing, its time to go back to my plan! So now, to get the most return value for these players they should wait until the offseason to trade them. I'm sure McLane fears that the fans won't support a team thats rebuilding so the decision isn't that easy for him. True baseball fans with adequate baseball knowledge knows that unless you are the Yankees or the Red Sox all teams will have to rebuild at some point. Lets face it the kids cant do much worse than the all star players have at this point! By the way the Astros lost tonight 7-0 to the D'backs! I rest my case!!!!
